Biography
Dr. Chen joined Graduate School of Education in 2016 and is currently Assistant Professor at the Center for the Study of Graduate Education. She holds an MA in Curriculum Studies and a PhD in Educational Studies from McGill University, Canada.

Dr. Chen’s past research mostly focused on graduate student experience and identity development. In Canada, she participated in multiple projects looking into doctoral students’ learning experience, career decision making and identity thinking, including a funded longitudinal study tracking doctoral students from various disciplines from their early years in doctoral programs, through completing the doctorate, to their first job position. Her own doctoral dissertation looked at how doctoral students experience the final oral dissertation defense. Dr. Chen is enthusiastic about applying research findings to practice. She was a leading member in a team that established McGill’s first graduate supervision website (www.mcgill.ca/gradsupervision). She also volunteered to teach a required course for first-year doctoral students in McGill’s Faculty of Education, sharing her knowledge in the area of doctoral education.
