Visiting Research Student Program

Program Introduction
The Graduate School of Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is offering a Visiting Research Student program to postgraduate students who are interested in undertaking a short-term visiting study and research in China. We welcome candidates who are following a postgraduate program at the Master’s or Doctoral level and whose research focuses in the field of higher education.

The Graduate School of Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University will provide supervision and research resources, such as access to library and other facilities, for the visiting students. Visiting students may also participate in the courses and seminars offered at the School and the University. 

We particularly welcome applicants whose research interests lie in world-class universities, university evaluation, international and comparative education, graduate education, and science and technology policy, and we are happy to accept and advise visiting students who are working on the topic of higher education in China in general. The visiting program will provide an excellent opportunity for the students to undertake a unique education and research experience in China.
 
Students accepted to the program will be registered as Visiting Students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and will enjoy access to a range of facilities as a formal member of the university. No degree or qualification will be conferred upon completion of the visiting study, but Shanghai Jiao Tong University will provide a record of achievement for students.
 
Fees
As the host institution, Shanghai Jiao Tong University will waive the tuition fees for incoming students for this visiting program, but students will be liable for the living and travel expenses during the visiting study period. Shanghai Jiao Tong University will assist students in finding accommodation on or outside the campus.
 
There may be funding opportunities available from your own university. Please consult your own university for the availability of funding for outgoing visiting students.
 
While visiting students are not required to pay tuition fees to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, they may need to continue to pay normal tuition fees to the home institution during the visiting study period.
 
Program Duration and Time to Apply
The duration of the visiting program depends on the applicant’s research needs and the availability of supervision at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, but in general we expect students to spend three to six months in Shanghai. Applications are accepted all year round, but we encourage students who are interested in this program apply or inquire at their earliest convenience.
 
Admission Requirements
The applicant should be following a postgraduate program at the Master’s or Doctoral level at a world-class university.
 
The applicant must be fluent in English. Chinese language proficiency is not required. If the student is interested in learning the Chinese language during the visiting study period, the School of International Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University can provide such opportunity.
 
Admission will be determined based on the applicant’s educational background and academic achievement, as well as the availability of supervision at the Graduate School of Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
